If You Give a Toddler a Popsicle…

There’s nothing like a cold, dripping, sticky popsicle to beat the summer heat. However, there is (at least) one small problem with this delicious treat:

Popsicle + Toddler = BIG Disaster (x2 in our house)

Since I don’t really want to follow the boys around with a bottle of carpet cleaner, we’ve tried to come up with a way to reduce (if not eliminate as you will see in the pictures below) the mess a bit.

Our secret to mixing toddlers and popsicles this:  Mesh Feeders (affiliate link)!  Those pictured above are made by Munchkin, and I’ve seen them at Target and most grocery stores near where I live.  Just pop in a cube (or a chunk of a regular-sized popsicle) and you are all set!

Also, I don’t really let them run around (especially on the carpet) with a dripping popsicle.  It is hard enough to keep my floors “goo”-free these days.  So, keeping this treat outside is really my first choice, even with those magic little feeders.

Because, you are probably still going to end up with these…

…sticky (yet deliciously sweet) little toddler kisses.  Does it get any better than that? :)

  3. Great idea! My son loves popsicles, but you’re right about the mess. btw, your boys are adorable.

  4. This is a good idea! I have those mesh holders but haven’t thought of much to put in them. This would be a good way for my baby to get to try popsicles too. My toddler likes to eat this ice cube size with a little straw stick, and they are small enough that he eats them before they drip : ) I posted about that on my blog here if you are interested. Happy Weekend!

  5. I agree- Popsicle in the mesh holders are awesome! My oldest still wants them in the mesh even though he’s old enough for the real thing.

  9. This is a great idea, I know we tried bananas in one of the mesh holders (not really a good idea, kind of messy!), but the popsicles looks like a great idea. Thank you for posting on Saturday Show and Tell. I hope you will be back this week.
