My culinarily gifted mother-in-law brought these delicious treats for us…I mean the boys…to snack on last time she visited.  While the original recipe calls for peanut butter, our current version uses Sunbutter since we are avoiding nuts.

I can only describe these as the love child of a Rice Krispie Treat and a Reese’s.

They are delicious.

They are simple to make.

And they are definitely toddler approved. 😉

1 c White Karo Syrup

1 c Sugar
1 c Sunbutter (can also use Peanut or Soy Butter)
6 c Rice Krispies
1 Pkg Semi Sweet Chips
1 Pkg. Butterscotch Chips

Place syrup and sugar in a sauce pan.  Bring to a low boil and boil until sugar is dissolved.  Stir in SunButter.  Mix well.  Add cereal.  Stir until well coated.  Press into greased 9 X 13 pan.

Melt semi sweet chips and butterscotch chips in a double broiler (or microwave while checking frequently).  Spread on top of cereal mixture and allow to cool.  Cut into squares and store in an air tight container.

  1. My mom used to make these! Haven’t had them in years!
