My First Painting

My mom, aka “Nana,” came to visit this weekend, which was a very good thing.  It was a very good thing because the adults actually outnumbered the toddlers in the house for a change, which was a much appreciated deviation from my daily “zone” defense strategy.

So, even with Daddy off working on our basement finishing project, we were still able to take advantage of an extra set of hands to do a little art project, while utilizing some much needed man-to-man coverage.

We found kid-friendly painting trays at the craft store, which proved to be a great way to (help) contain the mess.

And we decided on a few sponges as first paint brushes for fumbly little fingers.  With a few paper plate “artists’ palettes” and some water-based toddler paint, we were ready to begin.

Nana led the way with a quick demo, channeling her artistic abilities.  Nana was an art major in college, so I love that we did our first official painting with the artist herself.

Big Brother quickly got busy on a nice abstract, or perhaps, more modern piece.

And Little Brother jumped right in with a bit of pointillism – perhaps a future Seurat in the making? 😉

In the end, we were pretty proud of our little masterpieces.  Oh, and the paintings were great, too.
