A Close Encounter…of the Balloon Kind

Tonight, we just happened to be in the right place at the right time.  Let me explain.

I have a dear friend from college who has these amazing family photos from hot air balloon shows.

So, when we spotted this hot “ah ba-loo” after dinner, I grabbed my camera.

The “ah ba-loo” was great, but for a moment, I had more fun watching them.

“Ah Ba-loo!”  Can’t you almost hear him say it?

And then we got distracted…again…by a plane.

 “Biiig ah pee!”

Did you see it, Ma?  It was there, and there, and then…

Ok, but back to the balloon.

It appeared to be getting closer, so we headed out to follow it on our evening walk.

Do you see it?  It’s just behind those houses!

It landed just around the corner from our house!

The fire truck might be an indication that this was not the first landing choice.

But, everyone was okay.

So we stayed to watch the deflation.

It was awesome.  Really. Awesome.

And, as amazing as this was to see in person, I am so thankful to have had my camera.

Because this image will always be in my heart.  But now, it might just find a place in theirs.

  1. Oh I just loved that pointing stage!! Seems like yesterday and forever all at the same time. These photos are precious!

  2. I love these pics! I just wanted to let you know I did not get to publish my blog-of-the-month post today due to being unexpectedly extra busy with work all day, so I’m going to post tomorrow morning. I will post a link for you once it’s up!

  3. Awesome pictures!

I love how you capture, both in images and phonetic spellings, the joy that small things bring to small children!

    • Thank you so much for the sweet comment. Don’t you wish you could bottle up that joy? I’m sure that before we know it they will care less about the planes in the sky and the bugs on the ground…I guess we can enjoy it while it lasts. :)

  4. That is amazing! and your little guys are darling! LOVE THAT you happened upon something so fun

  5. Visiting from Bloggy Moms and your 99th follower! (almost to 100, yay!) Your boys are adorable! I have one about the same age and it’s a wonderfully exciting time! I love those pictures with the balloon! What a great moment!

  6. Hi, thanks for linking to the Mommy Brain Mixer! wow! how exciting is that!! Loved all the pics!

  7. I’m not sure the history of it in our area, but it’s not all that unusual to see hot air balloons in our area. (There is a big balloon festival every September, too.) I have quite a few awesome pictures (on film, and in my mind) of our girls in awe at the sight.

Are you Curious George fans? There is a story, “Curious George and the Hot Air Balloon” that our girls love. We always have to read it after every sighting. :)

    • Oh, I’ll definitely have to look for the book. We are definitely Curious George fans. We actually just “met” him today at our local PBS family “Fun Run.” Thanks for the suggestion!

  8. That’s so awesome! I love the faces that they made, haha! :) I found you via Mom’s Monday Mingle and am a new follower, whoop! :)
