Reindeer Munch Mix

While this delicious mix makes a great treat for Santa’s reindeer on Christmas Eve, it is also a delicious snack for entertaining, gift giving, or munching your way through the holiday season.  When holiday M&M’s are not in season, any color combination will work for a year-long go-to snack mix.  My mother-in-law (who helped me make this batch photographed) often has a huge red Tupperware-full when we come to visit.  Or, at least when we arrive to visit.  This stuff never lasts long…enjoy!

Reindeer Munch Mix

1 bag Pretzel Sticks
1 box Cheerios (Plain, Honey Nut, or Multigrain)
1 box Chex or Crispix
1 bag M&M’s (Red and green variety, 1 lb bag)
2 c Salted Peanuts* (Optional)
2 pkg. Vanilla Chips
3 Tbs Vegetable Oil

Mix first 5 ingredients in a large mixing bowl or pan.  In a glass bowl, slowly melt vanilla chips and oil in a double boiler or in the oven on low, stirring frequently.  Once melted, pour over cereal mixture and combine to coat.  Spread mix on wax paper to cool.  Break apart any large pieces and serve.  Extra stored in an air tight container should last up to a week or two.
Notes:  Amounts can be easily modified depending on preferences.  A bar of almond bark can be substituted for the vanilla chips and oil.  If almond bark is used, melt slowly without adding vegetable oil.
*Allergy note – This is not a nut-free recipe (unlike some others shared on this site).  Besides the peanuts, nut products can be found in the M&M’s as well as some of the cereals.  Please avoid this recipe if nut allergies are a concern.
