I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for Boys & Girls Clubs of America. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.
I may have mentioned this a few times lately (yes, Mom is excited, too), but the boys will be starting preschool this fall. Our big first day is inching closer and closer, and we are abuzz about all things school in this house. As part of our efforts to build up some excitement, we recently took a family trip to the mall to pick out some new “Back-to-School” kicks for the playground.
And, it seems to have worked. My little guys (who do not officially start for another 3 weeks) talk about their new shoes for “pee-skool” and wear their backpacks around the house like it’s their job. We take them everywhere. They fill and unfill them with their favorite toys of the day. They put them on, all by themselves, and then proudly tell me, “I’m going to pee-skool now, OK, Mom?”
Perhaps we started this excitement building just a tad bit early. Still, I’ll take it.
But here’s the thing. I realize that we are incredibly fortunate to be in a position to be so excited about school. We have the means to send our children to school, we have a choice of fantastic options where they can attend, and we have a strong belief in the value of education that we hope to pass along to our children. I also realize that not every child going back to school this fall will get a fun family shopping trip to the mall to find that perfect pair of shoes (followed by a celebratory and delicious chocolate chip cookie treat from the food court).
Can you imagine if all of our kids could be excited about the first day of school? If all our kids felt prepared and knew they had a support system to help them succeed?
Here’s how you can help make this back-to-school excitement a reality for more children with Boys & Girls Clubs of America.
It’s as simple as a 5 question quiz. Really. With just a few mouse clicks (here), you can donate a school supply kit to a Boys & Girls Club member so they, too, can feel that excitement and confidence that comes with being prepared. It’s simple, I promise! (You even get a second…or third…chance to get a correct answer. I mean, not that I would know.)
Be awesome. Take just 5 minutes to help fill a child’s backpack with needed supplies. Tell a friend. Share your good deed on Facebook. Tweet it. Help spread that excitement that comes with being prepared.
Let’s help all our kids have a great start this back-to-school season.
