Four Seasons of Four – Plainfield, IL Family and Child Photographer

My babies turned five this month.  Five.  Yes, in some ways it happened in a blink.  But in others it was a whirlwind - an exhausting daily "adventure" where I found myself wondering when will they would sleep through the night or be done with those blasted diapers or for the love...say goodbye those often terrible twos threes.  Now, I have new wonders.  I wonder how they will fare in Kindergarten.  I wonder if their budding passions for music and "how things work" will blossom in the years to … [Read more...]

Starting a Photography Business? 8 First Investments – Plainfield, IL Family Photographer

Some time last summer I was bit by the photography bug and became all consumed with the dream to start my own business.  Technically the 'love of photography bug' bit long ago.  But the desire and the spark to make it a career came last summer.  It was part true inspiration and part necessity.  Twins with preschool tuition.  Rising cost of living.  A desire to maybe, someday go on that family vacation to see the Mouse before the boys are, I don't know, twenty. I remember naively telling a … [Read more...]

Selfie Photobombers

With the New Year today, I begin a renewed effort at a Project 365 and Day 1 of my second year of the learning community, Shoot 2015.  Our assignment today was to introduce ourselves and to take a "selfie."  I'm not very good at selfies...neither with my phone nor with my camera.  So, I employed the help of my tripod and my husband.  While I'm still working on my final self portrait (as well as a new headshot for my website/FB page), I wanted to share a few shots from two little photobombers … [Read more...]

Project 365 – December 2014

December is a pretty hopping month around here - with Christmas and the end of the school semester and 3/4ths of the household celebrating birthdays - but we did manage a few images for our Project 365.  Here are a few December favorites...and one birthday selfie. The December birthday crew.  Photo credits to Nana. ;) And finally, I have to share a HUGE personal accomplishment.  My little problem of keeping my images only on my computer … [Read more...]

Blogging Detour…or Destination

I've been blogging and writing and otherwise dancing the fine line between the two for almost six years now. Six years. That's longer than I've held any one title (besides daughter, sister or wife) in my life.  I taught school for 5 years, and I've only been "mommy" for 3 (four if you could the belly year). To put that in writing surprises me, actually, as I feel a bit of a wandering spirit when it comes to trying on what I want to be when I grow up.  I'll spare you all the stops along … [Read more...]

Two Years through My Lens

A lot can change in two years. From the budding of communication with its grunts and points and attempts and words, to the full blossoming of conversation. From the unsteady toddling of little feet, to the sure-footed exploring of little boys. From "Mama" to "Mommy" to "Mom." From "Up?  Up?" to "I did it, Mom, look!" But, thankfully, in two years, some things stay the same. July 2012   And...July 2014. The July 2012 image of … [Read more...]

Snow Play

A few years ago, I got it in my head that I needed a "real" camera.  Something to better capture the love {aka...my kids} on the other side of the lens.  I did a little research, asked a few friends whose pictures always seemed to highlight the emotion and joy in their kids' faces, and then bought my Canon DSLR. While the thing takes amazing pictures on "Auto," I quickly realized that I wanted to learn a bit beyond the basics.  Along came a groupon for a "Sweet Shots" class with a local, … [Read more...]

Buddies

Just a few quick snapshots of my little boys becoming buddies. I imagine having a constant playmate is perhaps the best (and sometimes the hardest) thing about being a twin. Being ever at each other's side, the boys definitely have their tiffs and "sharing disputes," but there are also many sweet moments to remember.  I am truly thankful for these times - and there are plenty - as they help to maintain my "patience tank" during the more challenging moments.  What helps maintain your … [Read more...]

Caught Ya!

Maybe if I'm reeeally quiet... ...Mom won't even know I snatched this delicious snack from her purse... ...but I better eat it quick, because... Uh Oh! I've been caught! Um, well, Mom, you see... ...I was just playing over here and then I saw your purse and then there was this granola bar and... ...well, I didn't want to bug you and Little Brother and I just thought I should eat it because... ...I mean, it is just so yummy, and well... ...am I in trouble? I love being able … [Read more...]
