To Each, Their Own

A few scenes from a typical summer afternoon in the backyard. One, content, for days, in his shed. Ever wonder how a mower works?  This kid can tell you. Meanwhile, down in his Treehouse... This one is lost in a little magic of his own. Twins, these two.  But each their own man. … [Read more...]

Stayin’ Cool

So hot the lens fogged up yesterday.  But we found a way to stay cool. Here's to the almighty sprinkler; that summertime staple which has cooled generations of happy little feet.   … [Read more...]

Project 365 – Farewell August

Summer may be winding down according to the calendar, but we've still had lots of warm days here in the Midwest.  Thank goodness, because my two are loving every minute of life outdoors. Not sure what we'll all do once winter comes, but I think he has a few ideas. Finally, I usually focus on the little fellas for my Project 365 pics, but I have to share at least one of my other favorite fella.  It'll be 10 years this week.  Handsome, … [Read more...]

Where We Can More Clearly See – Summer Blessings

I think we might all agree that this summer has been particularly lovely.  Though we've had relatively cool temperatures, the days have still been warm enough for us to enjoy the finer things of the season. Such as… A delicious meal on the patio. (And yes, we definitely consider the occasional hot dog off the grill a delicious meal.) The finest offerings from our gardens. Or a dip in the pool, a day on the boat…or even a cool down at the local “water park.” (Fancy … [Read more...]

Seeing God through my Camera Lens

I take a lot of pictures.  I mean, a lot of pictures.  Ever since we bought one of those cameras that makes a regular mom look like a semi-capable photographer, I have probably taken somewhere in the thousands.   I easily unload 100+ a week from my smart card. Sometimes I worry that I'm guilty of watching life happen through a lens rather than right in front of me. But other times, I know that my kids, my babies, are growing up in a blur and I feel that if don't snap those precious moments, … [Read more...]

Summer Sun, Set

The sun is setting on this summer. This summer of three-wheel riding, and playground flying. Of mountain climbing, and tunnel crawling. This summer of moon spotting, and toad watching. On this summer of discovery, the sun is setting. And soon we'll rest our busy feet and still our eager hearts until it rises once again. … [Read more...]

Through Fresh Eyes

I've always loved the Fourth. In many ways, summer is at its peak when we kick off our shoes,  park it on a favoite blanket, and relish in the simple things that make this home. (Can you see it all through his eyes?) (Or maybe through his?) I've seen my share of parades, but to watch through their eyes is, well, Super. Does it get much better than this? Or this? Or this.  Here's to seeing it all with fresh eyes. Happy Fourth. … [Read more...]

Picnic in the Park

The other evening we crossed off an item on our Summer Bucket List and had a picnic in the park. We did a little bit of "picnic"-ing... but we did a lot more of this. We learned that toddlers tend to run... a lot...when they are not strapped in at meal-time. Freedom. But we did take time to stop and smell the flowers... and observe the bugs. And, of course, we had to do a little plane spotting. "Ah-pain!" Curious Little Brother. Energetic Big … [Read more...]

Backyard Jenga Tutorial

{See end of post for DIY instructions to make your own Backyard Jenga game.} The boys took their tower building skills on the road this weekend. Here they are super excited to have their turn at a game of Backyard Jenga at the family picnic, and getting a little needed help building the tower, and even playing the "right" way...with a little help...for a few rounds. Yup, just like that Little Brother. Until...Go! It was time for some destruction courtesy … [Read more...]
